Gpon stands for Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network. Gpon fiber is a fiber optic network technology that enables the delivery of high-speed services, such as high-speed Internet, cable TV and telephony, to end users through a passive fiber optic network.

Gpon fiber what it is and the benefits

The Gpon network is among the Passive Optical Network ( PON) standards. It is useful for WISP operators and ISPs to bring and deploy fiber optic broadband (FTTH) connectivity directly to the user’s home.

Gpon fiber technology uses a star network type, in which a single passive fiber is used to connect multiple end users to a single service source. This then results in reduced network installation and maintenance costs. Gpon fiber modems are therefore unique.

FTTH Gpon possesses significant advantages:

  • enables a significant decrease in infrastructure costs, since with a single fiber, thanks to point-to-multipoint splitting, the needs of a large number of users can be covered;
  • Enables centralized and remote management of multiple networks and users;
  • reduces the need for maintenance and repair because it is a passive technology that does not involve electrical connections between central OLT and peripheral ONT modules;
  • increases long-range coverage (up to 20 km) compared to copper pair;
  • Presents excellent value for money;
  • is equipped with OLT modules, which are the only ones that can handle up to 8 Upload ports including 2 at 10 GE;

Gpon fiber in accordance with the law

The Gpon network is the solution to adequately meet the regulations (Law 164/2014) for fiber optic installations. In fact, from 2015 onward, all new construction must be equipped with an in-building passive multiservice physical infrastructure.

This infrastructure must consist of adequate installation space and high-speed fiber-optic communications equipment capable of reaching the network endpoints and positioned within the apartment, room or office.

Gpon by Ek fiber technology

Ekselans (Ek) is the trademark of ITS Partner, a Spanish company founded in 2011, which since 2014 has been engaged exclusively in the design, development, production, and distribution of professional telecommunication products. These are sold through channel and by distributors with a high level of networking training and experience, thus able to provide appropriate service and support to installers, system integrators, and WISPs.

The range of Gpon products offered by Ek includes OLT modules, for fiber optic data distribution, and ONT devices, for wireless reception and connectivity. The plant is managed by the proprietary NMS software.

In addition, there are many add-on modules (amplifiers, splitters, converters for CATV) that, when integrated with the FTTH Gpon, make it possible to build a complete high-speed system.
